Accounting Specialist II, CDS | MRCI

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at MRCI, located in Mankato or Burnsville, operating on a hybrid schedule. The Accounting Specialist II plays a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, primarily managing billing functions while supporting payroll, accounts payable, claims processing, and month-end accounting activities. This position contributes directly to the organization’s mission by maintaining financial integrity and supporting services that make a meaningful impact.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Location: Hybrid, Mankato or Burnsville, MN
• Pay: $20.44–$25.04 hourly
• Team: Works closely with Accounting Coordinators and the Controller
• Mission: Primarily responsible for billing functions while also supporting payroll, accounts payable, claims processing, and month-end accounting activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, accounting software

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Records: Maintain financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), utilizing Microsoft Excel and accounting software for data recording and analysis.
• Billing & Claims: Process and resolve billing, payroll, and claims-related issues efficiently, including the accurate processing of CDS timesheets and claims.
• Month-end Support: Assist with comprehensive month-end accounting processes, which include payment processing, credit card reconciliations, aging reconciliations, invoicing, and various billing activities.
• Team Collaboration: Provide backup support for other accounting team functions as needed and assist Accounting Coordinators and the Controller with specific projects and reporting tasks.
• Data Management & Service: Ensure the confidentiality of all employee, client, and organizational information, maintain organized accounting files and records, and deliver excellent internal and external customer service.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with 1–2 years of accounting and customer service experience, or an Associate’s degree with 3–5 years of equivalent experience, is required.
• Experience: Essential experience includes extensive proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel, and accounting software.
• Skills: Proficiency in 10-key typing and data entry, a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices, the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines for multiple tasks, and excellent interpersonal communication, problem-solving, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities.
• Bonus: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including complex spreadsheets and formulas), experience with medical billing processes, the ability to read and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documents, and experience with balancing payment posting are preferred qualifications.
