Staff Accountant | Novogradac

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Novogradac, a national certified public accounting and consulting firm with over 900 employees and more than 25 offices throughout the country. Novogradac is a recognized leader in real estate and community development, working extensively in affordable housing, historic preservation, and renewable energy fields. The firm provides a full spectrum of audit, tax, valuation, expert witness, litigation support, property compliance, and general consulting services to national enterprises. In this role, the Staff Accountant is crucial for supporting the firm’s core business by completing various tax, audit, and other assignments, directly contributing to client engagements and ensuring the accuracy and thoroughness of financial work.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Complete client engagements: Complete tax and/or audit engagements for designated clients as directed by your Supervisor or Manager.
• Identify issues: Identify and communicate potential problem areas during client engagements.
• Conduct research: Conduct business-specific research, gathering and analyzing data, interpreting results, compiling reports, and making recommendations to principals and partners.
• Build relationships: Develop effective client relationships through professionalism and consistent follow-through.
• Manage additional tasks: Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance.
• Experience: Up to 1 year of experience in public accounting, or 1-3 years of experience in an internal accounting role, or an appropriate balance of education and work experience.
• Skills:
* Basic understanding of accounting and tax rules.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong computer proficiency, including the Microsoft Office suite (particularly Word & Excel) and report writing tools.
* Ability to perform work accurately, efficiently, with strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
* Collaborative teamwork and professional demeanor, adhering to firm deadlines and accepting feedback.
• Bonus: Ability to sit for the CPA exam or having passed sections of the CPA exam; availability to work evenings, weekends, and travel domestically if required.
