The Tone:
This is an internship at Hilcorp, located in Downtown Houston. Hilcorp is an energy company specializing in oil and gas production, as evidenced by its various accounting departments focused on production, revenue, and regulatory reporting. This project-based internship is meticulously designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience in accounting. Interns will be involved in diverse projects that directly contribute to enhancing the overall operational efficiency and achieving significant cost-effectiveness for the company, making this role vital to Hilcorp’s financial health and strategic operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project-based Improvements: Work on assigned projects specifically aimed at increasing operational efficiencies across various departments or creating tangible cost savings for the company’s financial operations.
• Collaborative Implementation: Collaborate closely with team members across the accounting function to implement recommendations derived from projects and systematically track the quantifiable impact of these initiatives on company performance.
• Core Accounting Support: Provide essential support to an accounting team with critical day-to-day tasks, including accurate data entry, timely transaction processing, and thorough reconciliation of accounts.
• Professional Development: Actively participate in departmental meetings and training sessions to broaden your foundational understanding of corporate accounting practices within the energy sector.
• Cross-Functional Exposure: Gain valuable exposure by being introduced to other key accounting and finance departments, such as Production & Regulatory, Revenue, and Accounts Payable, to provide a comprehensive picture of all related functions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level candidate for a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, maintaining a 3.0 grade point average, with a desire to work in the Oil & Gas production accounting field.
• Experience: Proficiency in the use and application of Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Skills: Demonstrate strong analytical ability to dissect financial data and identify trends; possess outstanding administrative and organizational skills for managing tasks and information efficiently; exhibit excellent spreadsheet and data management skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel, for complex analysis; capable of excellent written and verbal communication, with specific ability to present financial information in an organized and concise manner; and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and management.
