ACCOUNTANT 1 | State of Tennessee

What You’ll Actually Do
• Monitoring: Monitor federal and third-party grant and program funds to ensure accurate financial results.
• Auditing: Audit basic invoices, billings, and tax-related accounting documents for compliance with policies, terms, and regulations.
• Analyzing: Analyze general ledger transactions and account documentation from external customers to verify accurate recording and appropriate expenditures.
• Processing: Perform basic reconciliations of general ledger accounts, prepare financial activity reports, process accounts payable transactions, and prepare accounting journal entries and sales tax returns.
• Communicating: Gather account information from internal and external customers, solve basic billing problems, and communicate regarding financial transaction issues.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a bachelor’s degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting. This is an entry-level position.
• Experience: No prior professional experience is explicitly required, but appointees must successfully complete a mandatory one-year training period for reclassification to the next higher class.
• Skills: Foundational knowledge in Economics and Accounting, strong Mathematics, Reading Comprehension, Service Orientation, Active Learning and Listening, and Time Management skills are essential.
