Junior Project Accountant | The Douglaston Companies
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at The Douglaston Companies. The organization is a privately held group comprised of Douglaston Development, Levine Builders, and Clinton Management, operating with an owner-builder-manager advantage. They develop, build, and manage a broad portfolio including residential units, commercial, hotel, office, retail, religious, educational, and healthcare facilities. This role is crucial for an engaged individual to learn construction accounting fundamentals and contribute to project cost management in a collaborative yet challenging environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting Fundamentals: Learn the fundamentals of construction accounting and project cost management.
• Invoice Processing: Process vendor invoices, ensuring accurate project and cost code allocation for approval.
• Payment Management: Prepare and issue payments to vendors and subcontractors, verifying insurance compliance and proper execution of lien waivers.
• Billing and Requisitions: Prepare monthly preconstruction billings for review and assist with the preparation and submission of monthly project requisitions.
• Cost Reconciliation: Reconcile project costs in the accounting system, investigate variances, and assist in resolving discrepancies between budgets, commitments, and actual costs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
• Experience: 0-3 years of Accounting or Finance experience, along with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and email.
• Skills: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; strong analytical abilities; highly organized with attention to details, and capable of multitasking. Ability to safely navigate a construction site, including climbing ladders and stairs, and using job hoists.
• Bonus: Experience with Sage Intacct and Procore.
