• Mission: To learn and apply the principles, practices, and techniques required for management-level work in a personnel specialty area within City government.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn Management Principles: Acquire knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques for management-level work in an assigned City department.
• Complete Training Program: Participate in a structured training program designed to familiarize with the operations of city government.
• Perform Assigned Duties: Carry out various tasks and responsibilities that increase in difficulty as experience is gained.
• Attend Training Sessions: Participate in scheduled training sessions to develop necessary skills and understanding.
• Engage in Projects: Contribute to and participate in various projects pertinent to the assigned specialty area.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Completion of a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Human Resources Administration, Industrial Relations, Personnel Administration, Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Tests and Measurement, Labor Relations, Employment Relations, Legal Studies, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science, Government Administration, Organizational Development/Leadership, Public Administration, or a related area.
• Experience: No prior experience required, as this is a trainee-level position.
• Skills: Foundational knowledge in Human Resources Administration, Personnel Administration, Industrial Relations, and Government Administration principles.
• Bonus: Current enrollment in a Master’s of Public/Government Administration or Human Resources and Employment Relations program with at least 9 credits completed, OR possession of a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification.
