The Tone:

Myers & Stauffer LC is a certified public accounting and health and human services consulting firm, bringing over 45 years of experience to government clients. With more than 900 associates across 21 offices nationwide, the firm specializes in providing audit, accounting, data management, and consulting services to government-sponsored health care programs, including state Medicaid agencies and the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This Staff Accountant role is vital in supporting these state and federal government health and human service clients, focusing on those in need, by ensuring accurate healthcare reimbursement and provider compliance through expert financial analysis and auditing.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Review: Perform reviews of Medicaid provider cost reports and analyze health care provider financial information.
• Calculate: Perform reimbursement calculations for various government programs.
• Document: Prepare written documents and detailed working papers to support professional decisions and audit findings, adhering to Medicaid or other government program regulations and AICPA standards.
• Audit: Conduct desk reviews and various on-site audits, managing all phases from planning and risk assessment to fieldwork and reporting.
• Research: Conduct research to determine billing and reimbursement compliance, reviewing applicable federal and state policies and regulations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: An early career professional with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Experience: Requires an internship or equivalent working experience in accounting or a related field.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, well-organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, proficient in managing multiple deadlines and prioritizing assignments, and effective use of Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word).
• Bonus: A Master’s degree in accounting or a related field, CPA license or candidacy, prior experience in healthcare auditing and data analysis, the ability to interpret and apply statutory/regulatory policy language, and flexibility to travel as client and business needs dictate.
