What You’ll Actually Do
• Management Training: Learn and apply the fundamental principles, practices, and techniques required for management-level work within an assigned City department, focusing on management analysis or operations.
• Program Engagement: Actively participate in a structured training program that involves rotational assignments to diverse duties, attendance at scheduled training sessions, and involvement in various projects.
• Operational Familiarization: Undertake specific tasks designed to build a comprehensive understanding and familiarity with the overall operations of city government.
• Skill Progression: Execute assignments that progressively increase in difficulty and complexity as practical experience and knowledge are gained throughout the trainee period.
• Guided Development: Perform work under the direct supervision and guidance of a higher-level manager, receiving mentorship and feedback crucial for professional growth.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Major coursework should be in an academic discipline appropriate to the job assignment, such as Management, Management Operations, Business Administration, Management Science, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Government Administration, or Public Administration, or an equivalent bachelor’s degree as determined by the Office of Human Resources.
• Experience: This is an entry-level trainee position designed for individuals learning to perform management-level work, with no prior professional experience explicitly required; assignments will increase in complexity over time.
• Skills: Foundational understanding of management and operational principles (as derived from coursework), analytical thinking, organizational aptitude, and a strong capacity for continuous learning and adaptation within a government administration context.
• Bonus: Eligibility for Selective Factor Certification, which may be utilized to fill specific positions requiring particular degrees or certifications.
