Intern, Tax | Mariner

The Tone:
This is an internship at Mariner, within a professional office environment. The role focuses on supporting tax services for high net worth individuals across various return types, including personal, fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation, and gift tax returns. This position offers hands-on learning through real client work, helping interns develop foundational knowledge in tax planning and compliance. It’s an opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional setting while collaborating with experienced tax and wealth advisory teams.

The TL;DR

• Team: Tax and wealth advisory teams, under the guidance of experienced tax professionals.
• Mission: Support the tax team in servicing high net worth individuals across complex tax return types and contribute to tax planning and compliance.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, specialized tax planning and preparation software.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Preparation: Assist experienced tax professionals in preparing various tax returns for high net worth individuals, including personal, fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation, and gift tax returns, along with estimated tax vouchers and extension forms.
• Documentation: Organize and meticulously maintain client tax files and electronic records, while also providing administrative and compliance support, such as gathering information for billing and other client service needs.
• Data Review: Create detailed supporting schedules, accurately reconcile client financial information, and thoroughly review tax documents for completeness and precision prior to preparation and final filing.
• Professional Growth: Actively participate in training sessions, associate meetings, and professional development opportunities to build essential technical tax knowledge and gain exposure to the firm’s processes and best practices.
• Research: Conduct basic tax research and assist in gathering pertinent information related to inquiries from taxing authorities, alongside tracking changes in tax laws and regulations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, expected to graduate within 24 months of internship start.
• Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience from work or extracurricular activities.
• Skills: Strong aptitude for accurate numerical calculations, basic accounting or tax principles, high level of confidentiality, strong organizational and time management skills, and clear communication abilities.
• Bonus: Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
