Business Support Associate | Syracuse University

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Analysis: Generate monthly budget analyses and financial reports for income and expenses, performing reconciliations for student organizations, gifts, endowments, and sponsored awards.
• Transaction Processing: Pre-audit and process financial transactions such as credit card purchases, purchase orders, requisitions, and employee expense reimbursements, ensuring fund availability and correct chart string utilization.
• Grant Administration: Monitor cost-share requirements for sponsored awards, assist faculty with grant proposal budgets, track project expenses, and submit necessary transactions for proper financial reporting.
• Payroll Coordination: Support payroll functions for grant and gift-funded positions, process student employee hire requests, resolve timesheet errors, and serve as the backup for payroll approvals.
• Operational Support: Respond to departmental financial inquiries, manage contract approvals, and participate in monthly budget meetings, contributing to continuous procedure and process improvement.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Preferred Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting.
• Experience: Solid understanding of financial systems and procedures within a university setting, with strong preference for PeopleSoft financials experience. Strong and proven verbal and written communication skills.
• Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience with Adobe. Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills, the ability to research and gather data, strong receptive skills, and the capacity to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks with utmost discretion and confidentiality.
• Bonus: Exceptional ability to work collaboratively and a strong interest in creating and continuously improving procedures and processes.
