Credit VP – REITs and Non-Recourse Lending | Mizuho

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mizuho, located in New York City, NY (Hybrid). Mizuho is a global financial group offering comprehensive financial services across corporate and investment banking. This Credit VP position plays a critical role in evaluating and monitoring complex real estate credits, directly contributing to sound lending decisions for a diverse client base. The role offers significant visibility with senior management and provides a clear path for career progression within the Real Estate team.

• Mission: Owns the credit analysis, recommendation, and ongoing monitoring for real estate transactions including REIT, home building, and non-recourse finance to ensure sound lending decisions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Credit Application Review: Review and assess credit applications submitted by branches/agencies, providing effective analysis of creditworthiness, loan structure, and overall risk return.
• Financial Modeling & Valuation: Create various financial models for projections, enterprise valuation, and recovery analysis, commenting on the reasonableness of assumptions for management and Mizuho’s sensitivity cases.
• Prepare Credit Opinions: Draft accurate, clear, and well-organized written credit summaries/analyses with recommendations for approval, decline, or counter, discussing potential structure changes with stakeholders.
• Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Rating: Conduct comprehensive annual reviews and quarterly assessments of customers and industries, recommending appropriate risk ratings and proactively detecting potential credit problems.
• External & Internal Engagement: Directly participate in external meetings with syndicate banks, rating agencies, clients, and law firms, and act as a liaison between branches/agencies and other credit departments regarding credit issues.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or Economics, or a strong quantitative background, with basic industry knowledge in real estate, home building, and non-recourse industries.
• Experience: 6+ years of credit-related experience, with a preference for banking experience in non-recourse financing, and formalized credit training from an accredited financial institution.
• Skills: Proven credit analysis capabilities, advanced Excel skills for building comprehensive cash flow projection models, and strong written and verbal communication to present credit opinions effectively.
• Bonus: An open mind to learn new skills and unfamiliar industries, strong leadership skills to work with junior officers, and excellent interpersonal skills.
