Accounting Assistant | Fortis Fire & Safety
The Tone:
This is an entry-level, full-time role within Fortis Fire & Safety’s corporate finance team. Fortis Fire & Safety is a nationwide, next-generation fire protection company that provides industry-leading fire protection and security services across the United States, with an ever-growing footprint. This Accounting Assistant position is foundational, contributing to the accurate and timely processing of financial data and supporting core accounting operations. • Mission: Provides essential transactional accounting support to ensure accurate and timely financial data processing and maintain organized financial records.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Processing: Accurately process daily cash receipts and manage customer credits and write-offs directly within the company CRM.
• Financial Documentation: Systematically organize, maintain, and file all financial documentation, adhering strictly to company policies and record-retention standards.
• Accounting Cycle Contribution: Provide essential support to the corporate team during critical month-end, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Account Reconciliation: Assist with the accurate and timely posting of corporate invoices, conduct monthly reviews of bank transactions for accuracy, and support the review and posting of corporate credit card transactions.
• Compliance & Special Projects: Contribute to the preparation for financial audits and tax filings, and actively assist the corporate team with various ad-hoc projects and special assignments as needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. This is an entry-level position designed for professionals seeking to establish a strong foundation in corporate accounting.
• Experience: A working knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and practices is essential. While not required, prior internship or professional experience in an accounting or bookkeeping capacity is considered a valuable asset.
• Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy in data entry and record-keeping are critical. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of basic functions and formulas, is also required. Candidates must possess strong organizational and time-management skills, effective written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
• Bonus: Familiarity with accounting or ERP software and experience with month-end close procedures would be advantageous.
