Accountant | Jefferson County, Colorado

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role for an Accountant at Jefferson County, Colorado, operating within the Business and Finance Division. As a local government organization, Jefferson County is dedicated to serving its residents by managing public finances and operations. This role is crucial for ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for local governments, and providing essential fiscal support across various county departments and stakeholders.

• Mission: Ensure precise fiscal reporting and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for local governments.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Adjustments: Perform necessary accounting adjustments within the county’s financial system, specifically Workday.
• Reporting: Prepare documents for expenditure reporting to State and Federal agencies and other grant programs using multiple financial systems.
• Reconciliations: Reconcile bank statements, State and Federal revenue and expenditures, and various grant programs.
• Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger and prepare accurate adjusting entries for precise fiscal reporting.
• Stakeholder Support: Assist department directors, county and state personnel, vendors, and the public by providing general fiscal information and/or advice.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a similar field.
• Experience: 1 year of work-related experience in Human Services Accounting.
• Skills: Detail oriented with experience entering and tracking data, ability to identify and resolve budget reconciliations, independent critical thinking and analysis, strong written and oral communication.
• Bonus: Workday experience; a valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County business.
