Staff Accountant | The Health Plan (THP)

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at The Health Plan (THP). The Health Plan is a healthcare organization primarily responsible for managing financial records and supporting administrative services related to claims and expenses for third-party clients. This position is central to the daily financial operations, requiring a meticulous individual to prepare accurate financial statements and maintain robust accounting functions. The Staff Accountant’s contributions are vital for ensuring the company’s financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency.

• Mission: Own the essential day-to-day accounting functions and maintenance of precise financial records, supporting the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements for the organization.
• Tech Stack: Computer spreadsheets, Word processing software.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Prepare journal entries, including comprehensive support documentation, as a key component of financial statement preparation.
• Account Reconciliation: Execute accurate and timely monthly reconciliations for various bank accounts and general ledger accounts, including those specific to claims and third-party administrative services.
• Asset Management: Maintain the fixed asset register, diligently tracking depreciation, additions, disposals, and calculating gains or losses on the sale of fixed assets.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all multi-state regulatory filings and deadlines are consistently achieved, maintaining the company’s compliance standards.
• Audit & Operations Support: Assist with various audit preparations and provide essential financial operations support and backup to the CDS division.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
• Experience: Proven experience in monthly financial statement preparations and general accounting functions. Demonstrated proficiency with computer spreadsheets and word processing applications.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, highly analytical thinking, effective organizational skills, and clear customer service abilities.
• Bonus: One to two years of professional accounting experience is preferred.
