• Mission: Lead and oversee the Financial Crime Compliance framework as the subject matter expert on AML, CFT, Sanctions, ABC, and Fraud, to drive strategic implementation of comprehensive financial crime controls.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Framework Management: Establish, implement, and maintain the bank’s Financial Crime Compliance framework, policies, and risk assessment methodologies in strict accordance with Bank Negara Malaysia regulations, group policies, and international standards.
• Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for Bank Negara Malaysia, law enforcement agencies, and other regulatory authorities, ensuring timely and accurate statutory reporting and diligent addressing of regulatory queries.
• Strategic Advising: Provide expert advisory support to senior leadership teams, including the Chief Compliance Officer, and business units on intricate financial crime risks, emerging typologies, and evolving regulatory landscapes.
• System Oversight: Supervise operational efficiency and governance of Financial Crime Compliance systems such as Actimize and Hotscan, ensuring rigorous rules configuration, screening integrity, and escalation protocols.
• Investigation Leadership: Lead comprehensive investigations into complex financial crime risks, managing prompt escalations of suspicious activity reports (SARs/STRs) and material control breaches to senior management and regional committees.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Accounting/ACCA, Finance or a related discipline, with expertise in Financial Crime Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), Sanctions, Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC), and Fraud.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience in Financial Crime Compliance or AML within banking, including at least 3 to 5 years in a senior leadership or team management capacity.
• Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of Bank Negara Malaysia AML/CFT regulations, Sanctions frameworks, and MACC Act provisions; demonstrated hands-on governance experience with automated transaction monitoring systems like Actimize or sanctions screening tools such as Hotscan; exceptional communication skills for negotiating with regulators and engaging senior executive stakeholders.
• Bonus: Professional certification such as ACAMS, ICA or AICB is highly preferred; familiarity with US (OFAC) or Japanese banking regulations would be particularly advantageous.
