Claim Specialist – Property Field Inspection | State Farm

The Tone:
This is a full-time, remote-field role based in Muncie, IN, focusing on property claims. State Farm is a large organization committed to helping people and communities, evolving into a Next Gen Good Neighbor by leveraging technology to enhance human connections. This role is crucial for strengthening customer experiences, allowing specialists to apply judgment, empathy, and expertise in critical moments rather than navigating complex systems. The position is the initial point of contact for policyholders, guiding them through the claims process.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assess damages: Conduct on-site inspections and assessments of property damages for both residential and commercial claims.
• Resolve claims: Collaborate with policyholders, insurance agents, and other involved parties to gather information and resolve claims efficiently.
• Manage claim adjustments: Investigate and adjust personal and commercial property claims with exposures up to $500,000.
• Ensure compliance: Evaluate coverage and policy terms to determine the validity of claims and ensure compliance with local regulations.
• Settle claims: Negotiate and settle claims within authorized limits, considering policy provisions, industry standards, and company guidelines.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Demonstrated ability to interpret detailed policies, guidelines, or technical information, apply them accurately to real-world situations, and quickly learn unfamiliar concepts, processes, and terminology. Equivalent work experience in Property Claims or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred, with strong candidates possessing relevant coursework and internship/fieldwork experience encouraged to apply.
• Experience: An experienced and highly skilled professional with expertise in handling accident and weather-related claims for homeowners, commercial properties, and large losses, including investigating problems, evaluating information, and making well-supported decisions.
• Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with policyholders, agents, and other stakeholders, handling difficult or emotional conversations with a customer-minded focus. Strong organizational, analytical, and detail-oriented skills, along with proficiency in using mobile/desktop tools for documenting claims both in the field and remotely. Physical agility is required for frequent lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, navigating roofs at various heights, and crawling in tight spaces, potentially requiring Rope and Harness Safety Training. A valid driver’s license is essential.
• Bonus: Strong knowledge of property insurance policies, coverage, and claim handling practices, knowledge of both residential and commercial building construction, water mitigation inspection experience, and proficiency with Xactimate and XactContents.
