Job Description
Founder’s Associate (Ops Generalist) | Truss
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Truss, located in Remote (US) with offices in San Francisco and a preferred presence in Austin. Truss is a dozen-person YC fintech building banking and payments for construction, moving real money. This role is crucial for an early-career generalist to sit close to the founder and operating core, making hard, ambiguous work disappear and shipping critical tasks from day one. You are joining to ship work that matters immediately, not to learn from the sidelines or rotate through strategy decks.
The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Remote, San Francisco, CA (Austin preferred)
• Pay: $70000–$90000 yearly
• Team: Founder’s Office, supporting the Founder and Head of Operations
• Mission: Makes hard, ambiguous work disappear by driving critical tasks to completion and improving company systems.
• Tech Stack: Google Workspace, Notion/Linear-class tools, spreadsheets, modern AI tools
What You’ll Actually Do
• Take Ownership: Be the net when important tasks lack obvious owners, tracking, chasing, deciding, and closing them to completion.
• Amplify Leadership: Multiply the founder and Head of Ops by turning vague asks into finished artifacts, such as research, memos, and actionable schedules.
• Execute Core Operations: Run real company operations, including vendor follow-through, customer/partner admin, internal tooling hygiene, and light finance/people/ops support.
• Build Foundational Systems: Develop and implement reliable systems from scratch, moving from basic tools to solutions the team can run without constant heroic effort.
• Analyze and Communicate: Rigorously dig into numbers to understand issues like funnel leaks and vendor costs, then clearly articulate findings in briefs and competitive notes.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Proof of operating like an owner in past experiences such as campus organizations, startups, research projects, side businesses, military, family business, or competitive teams.
• Experience: 0–2 years. Evidence you can context-switch effectively without dropping balls, deliver strong written communication (short, specific, no fluff), and are comfortable with ambiguity and detailed work in a regulated fintech environment.
• Skills: Tooling fluency or a fast ramp-up with Google Workspace, Notion/Linear-class tools, spreadsheets that demonstrate rigor, and modern AI tools for drafting and automation.
• Bonus: Experience or internships at early-stage startups; prior role as a founder or “do everything” early hire; exposure to construction, fintech, payments, or SMB domains; experience running recruiting, events, partnerships, or customer ops end-to-end; quantitative coursework or data analysis skills without hand-holding; based in Austin or willing to spend time in the SF office; experience using AI to build small internal tools or automations.
