What You’ll Actually Do
• Student Financial Advising: Advise and assist students, parents, and external customers concerning their financial obligations to Northeastern State University.
• Delinquent Account Management: Negotiate payment arrangements, analyze financial aid and scholarship awards, and determine Deferment of Hold eligibility for students with past due accounts.
• Collections and Refunds: Prepare necessary documents to submit past due accounts for collections, communicate with account holders and collection agencies, and process refunds originating from financial aid, scholarships, loans, and personal payments.
• Account Maintenance and Reconciliation: Review and upload student charges for various university departments, perform a variety of reconciliations including departmental postings and cashiering transactions, and prepare daily banking deposits.
• Policy Adherence and Participation: Understand and apply financial aid award processes, course registration deadlines, bankruptcy policies, FERPA guidelines, and IRS guidelines for 1098T processing, while participating in university events to educate students and parents on financial obligations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early-Career level, demonstrating the ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
• Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a similar position, or completion of an apprenticeship/internship, providing sufficient understanding of the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
• Skills: Knowledge of financial aid and related federal regulations; knowledge of university policies and procedures; knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Bankruptcy Law; skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs; skill in interpersonal relations, decision making, problem solving, and customer services.
