The Federal Acquisition Institute exists to promote and support a professional acquisition workforce. These programs are crucial for attracting and developing future leaders and specialists who will manage and execute the federal government’s procurement of goods and services. Participants directly impact various agency missions by contributing to the analysis, management, and execution of public policies and programs.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Volunteer

• Mission: To attract outstanding individuals to the Federal service sector and develop future professionals in acquisition, logistics, and management roles across various government agencies.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop expertise: Learn and apply knowledge in federal acquisition, logistics, and contract management processes through structured programs.
• Procure goods and services: Contribute to the acquisition of a wide range of essential items, including IT hardware, software, boats, and aircraft, for government agencies.
• Participate in training: Engage in professional development through formal classroom instruction, distance learning, and rotational on-the-job training assignments.
• Draft communications: Prepare, edit, or contribute to official cables, reports, talking points, and other materials used by policymakers to further U.S. objectives.
• Support agency missions: Directly support the operational needs of various federal departments, including defense, homeland security, state, and veteran affairs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level career seekers, ranging from high school students to individuals with advanced degrees, or recent graduates.
• Experience: Currently enrolled students, recent graduates (within two years of degree or certificate completion), or veterans transitioning to civilian careers (up to six years post-completion for those with military service obligations).
• Skills: Public policy analysis, program management, contract negotiations, financial management, logistics management.
• Bonus: A commitment to public service, an interest in supporting U.S. foreign policy objectives, or prior military service.
