Assurance Intern – Financial Services – Winter 2027 (NYC) | BDO USA
The Tone:
This is an in-person internship at BDO USA, located in New York City. BDO is a global accounting firm that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services, operating as an ESOP company where employees have a stake in the firm’s success. This role offers energetic self-starters the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the firm’s Assurance practice, learning audit methodology and contributing to a dynamic client base. As an intern, you will begin to forge critical relationships and build a foundation for a successful career in the field.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn: Participate in a structured training program and become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
• Assist: Support audit staff through various stages of the audit process using BDO’s specific audit methodology.
• Communicate: Engage with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties regarding audit issues.
• Document: Prepare and organize work in working papers utilizing BDO’s specific tools and templates.
• Research: Complete an assigned accounting or audit-related research project and present findings to Assurance professionals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting; Entry-level career position.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required; leadership experience is preferred.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include pursuing a Masters degree in Accounting, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to follow instructions, effectiveness in a team setting, and a positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
