College Intern | City of Hollywood, Florida
The Tone:
This is an internship opportunity with the City of Hollywood, Florida, a fast-growing, culturally-diverse beachfront community located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Founded in 1925, the City spans approximately 30 square miles and serves as Broward’s third-largest municipality with a population of roughly 153,000 residents. This role offers university-level students the chance to contribute meaningfully to their community and gain valuable experience across various areas of municipal government by assisting with diverse projects, from clerical tasks to non-routine administrative matters and public contact.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Public Contact: Greet and provide information to the general public, responding to inquiries via telephone and in-person, and directing callers as necessary.
• Information Management: Assist in collecting and compiling information for department-related programs and projects.
• Office Support: Operate various office equipment and maintain organized filing systems for correspondence, forms, and records.
• Administrative Duties: Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, supplies, and equipment.
• Operational Insight: Shadow experienced staff members to gain deeper insights into their daily tasks and overall city operations, participating in meetings and taking notes.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED. Additionally, they must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, or have recently graduated, or have completed a minimum of 36 college credits. Ideal candidates will have completed at least one year of coursework in public administration, finance, engineering, human resources, or other related fields.
• Experience: This position requires an ability to handle moderately complex clerical and administrative tasks. Candidates should have experience or foundational knowledge in assisting with information collection, maintaining organized records, and engaging in public contact work. The role also involves operating standard office equipment.
• Skills: Proficiently respond to telephone and in-person inquiries, effectively communicate information to the general public, and direct callers as necessary. Candidates must be skilled in operating a computer, photocopier, shredder, printer, calculator, facsimile machine, and telephone with voicemail. Strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining accurate filing systems and managing correspondence. The ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and managers is also key.
