Institutional Portfolio Manager, Quantitative Solutions | MFS Investment Management

• Mission: Serve as lead portfolio management representative for the quantitative solutions team to internal and external clients.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Representation: Serve as the lead portfolio management representative for the quantitative solutions team, acting as a true quantitative investment professional who can explain investment philosophy, process, and performance to major institutional clients, consultants, retail due-diligence teams, and large financial advisor audiences.
• Strategic Communication: Collaborate closely with MFS distribution and marketing groups to effectively communicate product information, increase product awareness, and support distribution channels in prospect and client meetings, due diligence, and investment conferences. This also involves developing overall, long-term distribution strategies for each product, including market analysis and capacity.
• Investment Insight & Updates: Maintain a high level of proficiency on portfolio holdings and positioning by utilizing investment resources such as analysts and portfolio managers, providing regular investment updates (quarterly, annual) to clients and distribution groups on performance attribution, significant transactions, and the investment outlook.
• Product Definition & Materials: Work with Portfolio Managers to develop, define, and refine investment philosophy and style. This includes developing materials (presentations, white papers) that validate style attributes, identifying and tracking metrics to monitor consistency, and creating resources to help set appropriate client expectations and retain assets when a style is out of favor.
• Core Portfolio Management: Assume primary responsibility for portfolio management functions other than stock selection, such as negotiating client guidelines for new accounts. Additionally, contribute to the investment team by generating investment ideas, monitoring existing holdings, and managing risk using internal MFS fundamental and quantitative research, as well as attending company meetings and industry conferences.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires an MBA; this role demands broad knowledge of the global investment environment, economic trends, financial markets, and competitive trends, along with in-depth knowledge of the capital markets to build credibility quickly throughout the organization.
• Experience: A minimum of ten years’ experience in the investment management business is required.
• Skills: Strong presentation skills and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for articulating complex quantitative investment styles and portfolio strategies to audiences of varying sophistication levels.
• Bonus: The CFA designation is preferred, and quantitative experience is also preferred. Experience working with investment clients and managing portfolios while following assigned markets is a strong preference.
