Investment & Corporate Banking – Portfolio Management – Project Finance, Associate | Mizuho

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mizuho, located in New York, NY. Mizuho is a global financial institution providing a comprehensive range of banking services, including investment and corporate banking. This role is crucial for managing the credit quality and performance of a diverse portfolio of Project Finance transactions, directly contributing to the bank’s risk management and client relationship objectives. The individual will be responsible for independent portfolio oversight and credit analysis in a specialized and impactful area.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Portfolio Management: Independently manage a portfolio of Project Finance transactions, monitoring credit quality and promptly reporting any changes to relevant departments and Management.
• Credit Analysis & Approval: Conduct comprehensive credit analysis, reviewing contracts, cash flow models, borrower requests, and budgets to provide recommendations on internal ratings and borrower approvals.
• Loan Administration & Compliance: Coordinate loan administration with the back office, maintain accurate credit files and legal documents, and ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and covenant monitoring requirements.
• Stakeholder Communication: Maintain strong relationships with Agent banks and Borrowers, communicating adverse developments to Management in a timely manner, and providing support to the Origination team as required.
• Mentorship & Ad-hoc Support: Mentor and guide junior staff to foster independent work capabilities, assist Management with ad-hoc requests, and attend site visits and bank meetings as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business Administration.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Portfolio Management for Project Finance transactions. An advanced degree (MBA, MS, LLM) is preferred.
• Skills: Strong ability to analyze credits, contracts, cash flow models, and deal structures; excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to organize and multitask.
• Bonus: Spanish language skills.
