The Tone:
This is a full-time, onsite leadership role at WGN-TV, a Nexstar Media Group company, based in Chicago, IL. Nexstar Media Group is a leading diversified media company focused on delivering local news, entertainment, and sports content across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms. This position is a critical part of the newsroom leadership, responsible for spearheading WGN’s digital content strategy, audience expansion, social media initiatives, and streaming content execution, fundamentally shaping editorial direction and fostering multiplatform innovation.

• Mission: Lead the digital content operation, audience growth strategy, and multiplatform content execution for WGN-TV.
• Tech Stack: Digital analytics, SEO, social media platforms, streaming ecosystems

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy: Lead WGN-TV’s comprehensive digital, social, streaming, and CTV content strategy as an integral member of the newsroom leadership team.
• Collaboration: Partner effectively with newsroom leaders to drive multiplatform content planning, foster audience growth, and ensure seamless coverage execution across all platforms.
• Content Oversight: Direct digital content operations and strategy during critical periods such as breaking news, severe weather events, and other major events.
• Performance & Growth: Drive measurable growth across digital audiences, social engagement, streaming/CTV viewership, SEO performance, and overall audience loyalty, aligning with newsroom strategic objectives.
• Team & Culture Development: Supervise Digital Producers and other digital content staff, providing coaching, performance management, professional development, and cultivating a collaborative, digital-first newsroom culture.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience: Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience in digital news, audience development, streaming, social media, or multiplatform content operations, with demonstrated success in driving audience growth and managing high-performing teams.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of digital analytics, SEO, audience behavior, social media platforms, and streaming ecosystems. Possess excellent editorial judgment, communication, and organizational skills, along with proven leadership abilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Bonus: Experience working across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms.
