The Tone:
This is a part-time, onsite internship at MEP Health. MEP Health supports the Ophthalmology department, providing essential administrative functions within a healthcare setting. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth daily operations, effective patient communication, and meticulous record-keeping, contributing to a comprehensive patient experience. The intern will gain valuable insights into healthcare administration and operations while directly assisting department teams.

• Team: Ophthalmology Department, supporting administrative team and providers.
• Mission: Support the Ophthalmology department by managing administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient communication, scheduling, and accurate chart management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Daily Operations Support: Assist the administrative team and healthcare providers in managing the department’s day-to-day operations for 20 hours per week.
• Patient Interaction & Scheduling: Contribute to effective patient communication by handling inquiries and coordinating patient appointment schedules.
• Chart Management: Oversee and maintain patient charts, ensuring accuracy and proper organization of essential patient information.
• Training & Shadowing: Participate actively in training sessions and shadowing opportunities across various department areas to observe diverse healthcare functions.
• Healthcare Insight: Gain broader insights into the healthcare industry and departmental processes through direct engagement and learning experiences.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, preferably with a focus on healthcare administration.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience or years are required for this role.
• Skills:
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication abilities.
• Exhibit empathetic interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals.
• Possess the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
