Culinary Manager | Hillstone Restaurant Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Hillstone Restaurant Group, with relocation flexibility necessary for one of its 45+ upscale restaurant locations across the country. Hillstone Restaurant Group is a privately-held collection of renowned restaurants, including Houston’s, Hillstone, and R+D Kitchen, known for culinary distinction. This role is crucial for upholding the highest standards of culinary excellence and ensuring smooth, efficient kitchen operations within one of these esteemed establishments. Newly selected managers will receive a comprehensive 8-week rotational training program on-site.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Deliver consistent quality: Oversee all aspects of daily kitchen operations, including meticulous food preparation, precise cooking techniques, and immaculate plating, to consistently deliver top-quality dishes that meet Hillstone’s esteemed standards.
• Lead and develop the team: Lead and motivate a team of culinary professionals, providing ongoing guidance, comprehensive training, and supportive coaching to ensure their optimal performance and professional development within the kitchen.
• Uphold brand standards: Collaborate closely with the broader management team to ensure that all culinary products consistently meet the group’s high standards for both taste and visual presentation.
• Manage financial efficiency: Monitor and manage inventory levels meticulously, efficiently order necessary supplies, and actively control food costs to maintain budgetary targets while minimizing waste and ensuring peak freshness of ingredients.
• Ensure safety and compliance: Implement and rigorously enforce all health and safety standards within the kitchen, ensuring full compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and actively promoting a secure and hygienic working environment for all staff members.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Managerial experience in hospitality or a similar culinary role, preferably within a high-volume restaurant setting. Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of culinary techniques, comprehensive food safety regulations, and efficient kitchen operations. A solid understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, cost control, and inventory management, is also required.
• Experience: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a diverse team of culinary professionals. Experience must include the ability to navigate a demanding operational environment, along with the flexibility to consistently work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the business.
• Skills: Excellent organizational and time management abilities are essential, with a demonstrated capacity to prioritize multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines consistently. Strong, effective communication skills are necessary to liaise successfully with team members, the executive chef, and other departments.
• Bonus: While not a primary requirement for the application itself, candidates must be prepared for the necessity of relocation flexibility across the nation, as Hillstone restaurants are situated in major cities throughout the country.
