Assistant Controller | Country Bank
The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Country Bank, a mutual community bank with a history since 1850 and locations in Hampden, Hampshire, and Worcester counties. The bank builds financial services for its customers and communities, driven by its team members and an inclusive culture. This role is vital for ensuring the integrity of financial operations and regulatory compliance, directly supporting the Controller and the growing Finance team.
The TL;DR

• Pay: $70000–$85000 yearly
• Team: Growing Finance team, assists the Controller.
• Mission: Manages investment accounting, credit loss models, regulatory reporting, and general ledger operations to ensure compliance, accurate financial statements, and effective departmental operations.
• Tech Stack: Finastra core platform, Sageworks ALLL, Phoenix GL, BankBI, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Investment Management: Coordinate investment purchases, process monthly transactions, and prepare comprehensive reports on the investment portfolio.
• Regulatory Compliance: Prepare and submit essential regulatory reports including quarterly call reports, FR Y-9SP, and other FDIC and State-mandated documents.
• Financial Reporting: Participate in the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, researching variances, and assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements and Board packages.
• General Ledger Administration: Serve as the administrator and subject matter expert for the General Ledger system, managing changes within the Phoenix core system and assisting in new product builds and testing.
• Audit and Budget Support: Assist with annual external audits and federal and state examinations by completing requested materials and preparing assigned schedules, and participate in the annual budget process, including model setup, coordination, and variance analysis.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Experience: Four years of related work experience in a financial institution, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Skills: Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with the ability to research them, strong written communication skills, exceptional verbal and numerical aptitudes, and the ability to solve problems and work independently.
• Bonus: Knowledge of Mutual Holding Company structure.
