Legal Intern (Unpaid) | Young Life
The Tone:
This is an unpaid legal internship at Young Life, located in Colorado Springs, CO, offering a hybrid work option. Young Life is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and nurturing their faith. This role provides crucial legal support, research, and analysis across various legal domains for an organization whose mission and ministry are integral to its operations. As an intern, you will contribute as a servant of God, upholding Young Life’s exclusive Christian purposes of evangelism and discipleship by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through your work.

• Mission: Provide critical legal research and writing support to address diverse legal issues impacting a religious non-profit organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Research: Research global, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and analyze case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.
• Legal Writing: Clearly and concisely write legal memoranda and legal opinions under attorney supervision.
• Staff Consultation: Assist attorneys and paralegals in consulting with Young Life staff on open legal matters.
• Document Preparation: Assist in preparing contracts, agreements, and legal correspondence under attorney supervision.
• Case Management: Review and organize case files and discovery materials, proofreading legal documents for accuracy and compliance.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Completed the first year of law school at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States, providing an essential foundation in legal principles for this entry-level role.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in legal research and writing is required, along with competence in utilizing modern office tools such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Skills: The ability to effectively receive and apply instruction and constructive criticism is essential, alongside displaying creative problem-solving skills and demonstrating the professionalism and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with a variety of individuals and groups. Must also be adept at multi-tasking a variety of projects under tight deadline pressure.
• Bonus: A profound professional desire to serve the legal needs of a non-profit, Christian missions organization, aligned with Young Life’s exclusive Christian purposes. This includes professing a belief in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, subscribing to the Young Life Statement of Faith, and being ready and willing to fulfill ministry functions and refrain from conduct that detracts from biblical standards.
