Paralegal Specialist | United States Attorneys’ Offices

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Management: Organize and review complex factual and documentary data for investigations and trials.
• Legal Document Preparation: Draft a variety of substantive legal documents, including extradition requests, grand jury and trial subpoenas, and interrogatory requests.
• Trial Support: Prepare diverse visual exhibits and compile jury instructions in preparation for trial.
• Database and Research: Develop and enter case material into a computer database and perform efficient citation checking for legal documents.
• Litigation Strategy: Advise on efficient methods for preparing legal documents and provide comprehensive litigation case management.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree, 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or an LL.M. in a related field (e.g., Law, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration). Core domain knowledge in law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures is essential.
• Experience: At least one year of specialized paralegal or legal work experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in federal service. This includes analyzing legal decisions and case files, conducting legal research concerning precedents and past court decisions, composing legal briefs, and preparing evidence.
• Skills: Legal research and analysis, legal document composition (briefs, summaries), litigation support (evidence, exhibits), computer database management, and data visualization (charts, graphs, tables).
