Venture Capital Analyst | DRW
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at DRW, located in Chicago, IL. DRW Venture Capital is a private investor in financial and enterprise technology, focusing on businesses that benefit from DRW’s engagement beyond capital through client relationships, liquidity provision, product review, and deep industry expertise. The team is a stage-agnostic venture capital and growth equity investor focused on companies within the fintech and capital markets space, with a portfolio of 35 companies including Crusoe, Kraken, Alpaca, and TradingView. The Analyst or Associate will have significant exposure to all aspects of private company investing, playing a pivotal role in evaluating new opportunities and monitoring portfolio performance.

• Mission: This person will identify, evaluate, and support investments in financial and enterprise technology companies within the fintech and capital markets space.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Sourcing: Generate outbound investment opportunities through industry research and networking, and manage inbound leads from co-investors, entrepreneurs, and DRW employees.
• Diligence: Prepare and present investment memos and pitch decks for new and follow-on investments based on fundamental analysis and market research.
• Financial Analysis: Conduct valuations for current and pipeline opportunities, utilizing methodologies such as DCF, public and private comparables, and transaction analysis.
• Value Creation: Support portfolio company management teams to develop corporate strategy, evaluate M&A opportunities, assess new business lines, and other projects as needed.
• Portfolio Monitoring: Track and evaluate current investments and overall portfolio performance via regular valuations, cap table and waterfall analysis, and company performance metrics.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Experience: 1 to 4 years of experience in Venture Capital, Growth Equity, or Private Equity. Previous exposure to valuation modeling (LBOs, liquidation waterfalls, cap tables, DCF, etc.) and a high level of proficiency in Excel.
• Skills:
• Quantitative Analysis: Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in valuation modeling (LBOs, liquidation waterfalls, cap tables, DCF) with Excel.
• Investment Acumen: Strong interest in the fintech investment category, including cryptocurrency, trading platforms, data businesses, and technology companies, coupled with a passion for evaluating investment opportunities both quantitatively and qualitatively.
• Business Curiosity: Limitless curiosity about business models and understanding how companies make money.
• Communication: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail, a strong sense of urgency, and self-motivation.
• Bonus: Additional experience in Investment Banking, Consulting, Corporate Strategy, or other finance roles is preferred.
