The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mizuho, located in Houston, TX. Mizuho’s Banking Division provides corporate and investment banking coverage, advisory services, and loan capital markets solutions to leading international corporations, financial institutions, and public sector entities. This role is crucial for the Energy Group, specifically within Oil & Gas and Energy Infrastructure, contributing to strategic transaction development and execution for key clients. The Associate will play a pivotal part in generating ideas for potential acquisitions, divestitures, and investment opportunities.

• Team: Part of a deal team within the cross-product Energy Group, reporting into a Director – Vice President.
• Mission: Execute banking and securities mandates while originating ideas for acquisitions, divestitures, and investment opportunities within the energy sector.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research & Analysis: Conduct extensive quantitative economic, industry, and company research and analysis to inform strategic recommendations.
• Financial Modeling: Model a broad range of corporate finance alternatives and perform due diligence for client transactions including M&A, strategic options, and acquisition finance.
• Material Development: Draft client pitches and marketing materials for M&A, public/private debt, equity capital markets, and internal documentation, coordinating resources effectively.
• Transaction Execution: Assist in financing structuring, underwriting transaction evaluation, preparation, due diligence, and overall execution for client mandates.
• Client Relations & Mentorship: Support the development and ongoing cultivation of client relationships, and contribute to the development and teaching of Analysts within the Energy Group.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics. Comprehensive knowledge of corporate finance, securities, financial markets, and risk & pricing analysis is required.
• Experience: At least three years of prior investment banking or similar professional experience specifically focused on the oil and gas industry is essential. Some technical experience in upstream, midstream, and LNG is also required.
• Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly. Proven capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure, adhere to tight deadlines, and work effectively both independently and within a team environment. Expertise in financial modeling, valuation, comparable & relative value analyses, market-specific analysis, and advanced proficiency with FactSet, CapitalIQ, Bloomberg, and Microsoft Office are critical. Series 79 & 63 licenses are required.
