FINANCIAL ANALYST | Wells Group
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Wells Group, located in New York, NY (Meatpacking District). Wells Group is an accounting and financial advisory firm that provides interim CFO and Controller services to high-growth startups and mid-sized companies across various industries like SaaS, media, healthcare, fintech, and consumer goods. This role is critical as analysts work closely with founders and CFOs, leveraging AI to generate sharp insights that directly contribute to client growth and strategic decision-making. The firm operates with an extremely flat structure, offering a core team member the opportunity to execute at a high level and make a significant impact within the organization and for clients.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Modeling: Build, maintain, and interpret detailed financial models covering P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow, including scenario analysis and capital structure work.
• Insight Generation: Transform client financials, key performance indicators, and market trends into clear, actionable insights for client leadership.
• Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly reporting packages that explain financial variances and identify critical business drivers.
• Presentation Support: Provide rigorous analysis for board materials, investor decks, and executive presentations that withstand scrutiny.
• Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with client leadership to critically evaluate budgets, forecasts, and strategic initiatives.
• Deep Dives: Conduct ad hoc deep dives into customer, product, and margin data to uncover underlying business performance.
• Automation: Implement AI and automation to streamline financial reporting and modeling processes, establishing new firm standards.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or higher in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, requiring foundational knowledge in financial analysis and advisory services.
• Experience: 1-3 years in financial analysis, FP&A, investment banking, or consulting.
• Skills: Exceptional Excel proficiency for structuring complex models and handling large datasets, comfort with AI and automation tools, sharp quantitative and analytical judgment, strong written and verbal communication, and self-direction to manage multiple client workstreams.
• Bonus: SQL experience (strongly preferred), prior experience at a Big Four firm, investment bank, or management consulting firm, familiarity with U.S. GAAP (CPA or progress toward it), experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems, and exposure to multiple industries or client-facing work.
