Paralegal Specialist | DC Department of Human Resources
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at The Office of the Attorney General (OAG), located in Washington, D.C. The OAG serves as the chief legal office for the District of Columbia, responsible for enforcing laws, defending government agencies, providing legal advice, and protecting residents’ interests. This position is crucial for providing essential legal, administrative, and logistical support within the Public Safety Division’s Juvenile Section, directly contributing to the District’s legal operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Pleading Support: Assist attorneys with drafting various pleadings by compiling facts and information, and manage electronic filing and retrieval of documents from D.C. Superior Court and agency databases.
• Evidence Processing: Collect, review, and redact sensitive evidence, including body-worn camera footage, video evidence, social media platforms, and CCTV, for disclosure to defense counsel.
• Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct legal research on specific issues, cases, statutes, regulations, and legislative history, then analyze and summarize findings for attorneys.
• Case Management: Establish and maintain an effective system for monitoring and tracking cases, ensuring compliance with deadlines and timely submission of all legal pleadings, forms, and reports.
• Trial Preparation: Obtain, prepare, and organize evidence and exhibits for trials and hearings, and assist attorneys in preparing government, lay, and expert witnesses.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Career level: Paralegal Specialist (CS-11). Requires experience providing legal, administrative, and logistical support in a legal environment, particularly involving juvenile cases.
• Experience: At least one full (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-09 level in the District Service, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the duties of this position.
• Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, a high level of attention to detail, and proficiency with legal research tools such as LexisNexis or Westlaw, along with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive).
