Appeals Bureau: Trial Preparation Assistant, Level I | City of New York
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the City of New York, specifically within the Bronx District Attorney’s Office in the Bronx, NY. This role is crucial in assisting Assistant District Attorneys with post-conviction legal matters, ensuring the efficient operation of the Appeals Bureau. What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Management: Manage and maintain digital case files and the mental hygiene tracking database.
• Exhibit Processing: Process defense requests for hearing and trial exhibits and maintain the exhibit database.
• Document Handling: Prepare and deliver documents for postal service mailing and retrieve court and prosecution files.
• Transcript & Orders: Request and track down court transcripts, and obtain and file orders to produce.
• Clerical Support: Provide essential clerical assistance to paralegals, including data entry, filing, and case management.
• Legal Document Preparation: Assist paralegals in preparing court exhibits, discovery materials, court orders, motions, subpoenas, and other related legal documents.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions, and to understand and be understood in English.
• Experience: A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience within and outside the five boroughs, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat; strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines; excellent attention to detail and accuracy; and strong communication skills for professional interaction with staff.
• Bonus: A bachelor’s or associate degree is preferred, as is the ability to work independently and proactively, and a desire to contribute to the success of the Appeals professional staff team.
