Director, Control Room Compliance | Royal Bank of Canada

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Royal Bank of Canada, located in San Francisco, CA. • Mission: Restrict the improper flow of information and prevent the misuse of material non-public information between public and private side areas of the firm.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Review: Review research notes and reports submitted by Supervisory Analysts for content approval against Watch and Restricted Lists.
• List Management: Conduct daily updating and monitoring of the firm’s Restricted List to ensure accuracy.
• Watch List Oversight: Perform daily updating, review, additions, and deletions for the Watch List, and obtain necessary updates from Investment Banking.
• Advisory Support: Advise Research and Sales & Trading on restrictions and corresponding permissible activities, and coordinate with Investment Banking regarding deal announcements.
• Compliance Monitoring: Implement Information Barriers Surveillance, Monitoring, and Testing, and execute Risk Assessments and Risk Control Matrix (RCM) tasks.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree with core domain knowledge in maintaining information barriers and preventing information misuse in a financial services context.
• Experience: 10 or more years of dedicated Control Room experience, or alternatively, 12 or more years experience in broader broker-dealer compliance. This role requires schedule flexibility to provide coverage, including weekends as needed.
• Skills: Subject matter expertise in FINRA Rule 2241, Regulation M, and other relevant securities rules and regulations; ability to work under short deadlines and make quick, reasoned decisions.
• Bonus: Juris Doctor (JD); proven ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a team environment.
