Financial Analyst | University of Iowa

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at the University of Iowa, located primarily on-campus within UI Health Care in Iowa City, IA, with the option for remote work within the state of Iowa after a training period. The University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, coordinating cancer-related research, education, and patient care across multiple departments and colleges. This role is crucial for supporting the clinical trial operations of the Cancer Center by ensuring sound financial management, budgeting, and compliance, thereby contributing to advancements in cancer research and patient care.

• Mission: To ensure financial oversight, accurate budgeting, and compliant reporting for clinical trial operations within a comprehensive cancer center.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Oversight: Monitor and reconcile 45-50 Single MOG clinical trial account expenditures, addressing irregularities, answering inquiries, and implementing corrective actions.
• Budget Analysis: Consult with stakeholders and administrators on budget analysis and submissions for clinical trials supported externally, including analyzing and preparing budget amendments.
• Financial Reporting: Complete routine account reconciliations for clinical trial patients, prepare and submit invoices for services rendered, and monitor outstanding accounts.
• Compliance and Billing: Assist the Research Billing Compliance Office with allocating patient expenses to appropriate funding sources and serve as a liaison for billing compliance issues.
• Contract Preparation: Prepare documentation, submit routing forms, and secure necessary contract approvals, acting as a liaison with University Counsel and industry representatives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of accounting and/or financial experience, including managing complex financial information with strong attention to detail.
• Skills: General knowledge of accounting practices, excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, proficiency in computer software applications (Microsoft Excel, various database systems), ability to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively.
• Bonus: Experience with financial contracts, university insurance and/or billing processes, clinical trials/human subject research, medical terminology, University of Iowa accounting financial systems, preparing and negotiating budgets, or knowledge of University of Iowa business policies, procedures, and regulations.
