The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Runway, located in San Francisco, CA. Runway is building AI to simulate the world by merging art and science, believing that world models are crucial for progress in robotics, disease, and scientific discovery. This role is significant as the first Corporate Development and Capital Markets hire, serving as a strategic and operational partner to the CFO and executive team. This individual will own key financial strategies, drive external capital allocation, and manage investor relations, directly shaping Runway’s future.

The TL;DR

• Team: Reports to the CFO, partners with the executive team.
• Mission: Own Runway’s M&A and external capital allocation strategy, lead investor relations, support fundraising, and drive the narrative for capital and strategic initiatives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Function Building: Build a rigorous corporate development and capital markets function, establishing best practices and frameworks for scale.
• Deal Leadership: Lead strategic M&A and complex deals from initial thesis development through diligence, negotiation, and navigation of various stakeholders.
• Strategy Driving: Drive Runway’s capital structure and financing strategy by staying ahead of market dynamics, investor appetite, and creative deal structures.
• Fundraising Support: Support end-to-end fundraising and execution, including building high-fidelity materials and managing data rooms with operational excellence.
• Narrative Refinement: Refine the investor narrative and define Runway’s position in the generative AI landscape by translating financial metrics, product milestones, and strategic bets into investor-legible content.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level professional with a core understanding of financial strategy, M&A, private equity, venture capital, and corporate development.
• Experience: 7+ years of experience in investment banking, M&A, private equity, venture capital, or corporate development, with familiarity across various financing instruments.
• Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate a wide variety of stakeholders, partner credibly with technical teams, and operate comfortably in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
• Bonus: JD / MBA preferred
