Marketing Director, Paid Media | American Express

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at American Express, located in the United States. American Express’s U.S. Consumer Services team is responsible for a comprehensive suite of consumer products, services, and experiences in the U.S., encompassing premium, cobrand, cash back, and lending portfolios, Membership Rewards, Global Travel & Lifestyle Services, the Centurion Lounge network, Global Dining and Resy businesses, and U.S. Consumer Banking. This team creates best-in-class marketing programs across customer, prospect, and partner channels, focusing on making membership an indisputable competitive advantage. This Marketing Director role is pivotal within the U.S. Consumer Marketing team, leading the paid media and creative strategies that drive strong acquisition results across this diverse portfolio, thereby making membership essential by generating demand and inspiring engaged Card Members.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy Leadership: Lead the paid media and creative strategy to drive strong acquisition results across the U.S. Consumer portfolio.
• Media Landscape Definition: Define how American Express shows up across an evolving paid media landscape.
• Channel Expansion: Expand into new formats and channels, including video, audio, and social-first experiences.
• Future Influence Strategy: Develop strategies to influence AI- and LLM-driven consumer discovery.
• Cross-functional Partnership: Partner across Marketing, Brand, Product, Analytics, and agency teams to drive innovation and business growth.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree required; this is a Director-level role focusing on paid media, performance marketing, or digital marketing strategies.
• Experience: 10+ years leading paid media, performance marketing, or digital marketing strategies with a proven track record of driving business growth; demonstrated success leading high-performing teams, agency partners, and cross-functional stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization.
• Skills: Deep expertise in performance marketing, investment management, optimization, measurement, and creative strategy that drives business performance; strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business recommendations and executive narratives; excellent communication and executive influencing skills with the ability to build alignment across diverse stakeholders.
• Bonus: Experience within a highly regulated industry.
