Senior Paralegal | AHRC New York City

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at AHRC New York City, located in Manhattan. AHRC New York City is a nearly $400MM nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting neurodivergent children and adults through a broad spectrum of services. This role is crucial in supporting the Chief Legal Officer and various departments, ensuring efficient legal administration, compliance, and effective handling of legal and governance matters for the organization’s vital mission. • Team: Legal Department, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer
• Mission: Supporting the Chief Legal Officer in all legal, governance, compliance, and administrative matters for the organization.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint

What You’ll Actually Do
• Administration: Coordinate meetings with the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and agency staff, as well as external parties, while maintaining Legal Department files and databases.
• Financial Support: Track Legal Department budget expenses and process the payment of invoices.
• Legal Assistance: Assist the CLO in contract administration, governance matters, and provide support to the Human Resources Department on employment, retirement, benefits, and union issues.
• Departmental Liaison: Liaise with the Real Property Department on landlord/tenant matters and real estate transactions, and with other Program and Administration Departments for legal assistance.
• Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities to improve legal administration workflows and document templates to enhance efficiency and consistency.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate Degree or Paralegal Certificate is required, reflecting a senior level with several years of paralegal experience in a law firm.
• Experience: Several years of work experience as a paralegal in a law firm is required, alongside proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills; critical thinking, curiosity, and proactive approach; superior organizational skills with an ability to manage time, solve problems, and handle multiple projects independently.
• Bonus: A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, along with a demonstrated interest in working at a mission-driven not-for-profit organization and a commitment to social justice.
