Intern – Finance & Risk Management | Pima County

This is a dynamic, motivated part-time internship within Pima County’s Department of Finance & Risk Management, located in Pima County, AZ. The Grants Finance Division is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join their collaborative, team-oriented environment. This role is essential for supporting critical grant financial activities across various County departments, offering a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in public sector finance. The intern will delve into grant budgeting, financial reporting, and data analysis, providing crucial compliance support while gaining comprehensive exposure to County financial systems and processes, and insight into the full lifecycle of grant financial management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support Grant Financial Activities: Provide direct assistance with grant budgeting, comprehensive financial reporting, and essential compliance support for various County departments.
• Extract and Analyze Data: Actively participate in extracting and analyzing financial data, utilizing tools such as Excel and other specialized financial systems.
• Gain System Exposure: Receive hands-on exposure and insight into Pima County’s financial systems and established processes.
• Understand Grant Lifecycle: Develop a practical understanding and gain insight into the full financial management lifecycle of grants from inception to completion.
• Perform Assigned Tasks: Execute a broad range of administrative, operational, or technical tasks as directed by the department’s needs and supervisory guidance.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must be a recent graduate from or currently a sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled in an accredited college or university. A major in accounting, finance, business analytics, or a closely related field is required.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is mandated; however, candidates should possess strong analytical skills and demonstrate a clear interest in public sector finance and grant administration.
• Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, particularly with tools like Excel, and an aptitude for learning and working with financial systems. Must be detail-oriented.
• Bonus: Preference given to candidates who are currently a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
