The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Citi, located in New York, New York. Citi is a leading global financial institution, recognized for its comprehensive equity research and commitment to objective, high-quality investment insights for institutional clients across global markets. As a Senior Associate, you will work directly alongside a senior analyst, contributing to research publications, maintaining financial models, and engaging with clients and company management teams. This role is critical in strengthening the quality and independence of Citi’s equity research coverage for the Upstream Energy sector, a field currently central to global investment attention.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Process Support: Support a senior equity research analyst covering the Upstream Energy sector by contributing to all aspects of the research process, from financial modeling to publication.
• Financial Modeling: Develop and maintain detailed financial models for Upstream Energy companies, including earnings forecasts, relative value analyses, and scenario-based frameworks.
• Research Publication: Assist in authoring equity research products such as earnings previews and recaps, initiation reports, and deep-dive thematic notes, maintaining a high standard of analytical rigor and clarity.
• Client Engagement: Respond to client inquiries from internal stakeholders and external investors, delivering timely and well-reasoned analytical perspectives on covered companies and sector trends.
• Event Coordination: Coordinate investor events, including management meetings, company field trips, and expert consultant calls, ensuring seamless execution and strong client experience for institutional clients.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, with a solid foundation in accounting principles and financial modeling applied within an equity research context.
• Experience: 5 to 8 years of experience in equity research or a closely related financial analysis discipline, with a track record of supporting senior analysts on complex coverage and direct exposure to the research publication lifecycle.
• Skills: Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely to institutional clients and internal stakeholders. Active FINRA licenses: SIE, Series 63, Series 86, and Series 87 (or commitment to obtain upon hire).
• Bonus: MBA, graduate degree, or CFA designation; sector-specific knowledge of Upstream Energy, including exploration and production dynamics, commodity markets, and energy company valuation frameworks; experience engaging directly with company management teams or institutional investors in a research or advisory capacity.
