Financial Strategies Associate | Hilltop Securities Inc.

The Tone:
This is an on-site role at Hilltop Securities Inc., a subsidiary of HilltopHoldings, building noble and collaborative relationships that enrich the financial future of individuals, businesses, and communities. The company delivers a broad range of investment banking and related financial services to help clients achieve their definition of success. This role is critical for supporting a rapidly growing strategies team by focusing on fixed-income bond accounting analytics and reporting, ensuring meticulous attention to detail, strong financial acumen, and critical thinking to automate workflows, validate data, and deliver professional client materials.

• Team: Rapidly growing Strategies Team within the Fixed Income department, collaborating with FST Analysts and supporting senior strategists.
• Mission: Ensure accurate fixed-income portfolio accounting, robust data validation, and clear client reporting to support internal and external stakeholders.
• Tech Stack: Excel, Bloomberg Terminal, Python, VBA, .NET, SQL, QuickBooks

What You’ll Actually Do
• Portfolio Management: Process monthly investment portfolios using accounting models for assigned financial institutions, ensuring accurate execution and timely delivery of reports.
• Data Quality Assurance: Quality-check results and reports, logging, tracking, and resolving discrepancies with documented root-cause notes.
• Client Relationship Support: Provide client-facing support, troubleshooting issues, offering technical guidance, and assisting with new client onboarding and ongoing assistance.
• Strategic Analysis & Reporting: Proactively perform investment portfolio analysis to surface insights and risks, and create client-ready slides and memos presenting complex topics.
• Process Optimization: Contribute to standard operating procedures (SOPs), data dictionaries, and build processes for data validation and transformation to support scale and team alignment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Math/Stats, Data Science, or related field. Knowledge of fixed-income securities, analytics, amortization, accretion, paydowns, and GAAP required.
• Experience: Licensing: SIE + Series 7 + Series 63 (or obtained within firm-mandated timeline). Familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal and fixed income security modeling.
• Skills: Strong Excel skills, including advanced formulas, data validation, and professional formatting for client deliverables. Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment with client-facing etiquette and reliable follow-through.
• Bonus: Investment Accounting and Asset/Liability Management knowledge. Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, VBA, .NET, and/or databases (SQL). Experience with QuickBooks.
