Associate – Leveraged Finance Execution (HCA) | Huntington National Bank

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Huntington National Bank, a major financial institution committed to providing comprehensive financial services and strategic capital solutions. This Associate position, specifically within the Huntington Capital Advisors (HCA) sub-team, is critical for supporting senior deal team members in the intricate process of underwriting and executing leveraged finance transactions. The role focuses on privately held businesses, including founder-owned, family office–owned, and small-cap sponsor-backed companies, addressing their diverse needs such as shareholder lifecycle planning, inorganic growth, and monetization events. The Associate will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and timeliness of complex financial analysis and deal execution, while also fostering the growth of junior analysts.

• Mission: Provide underwriting and execution support for leveraged finance transactions, focusing on strategic capital solutions for privately held businesses with EBITDA of $10 million or greater.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Execution: Execute various leveraged finance transactions, including senior secured debt, TLBs, high-yield bonds, and mezzanine, requiring the presentation of complex deals, companies, and related financial information often under critical time constraints.
• Due Diligence Leadership: Spearhead the comprehensive due diligence process for new cash flow transactions, which involves performing financial due diligence, synthesizing information, and leading detailed diligence calls.
• Credit Documentation and Modeling: Prepare and/or review critical screening memos and internal credit approval documents, alongside preparing and reviewing intricate financial models to support transaction assessments.
• Deal Closing Management: Organize and diligently manage the entire closing process for new leveraged finance transactions, ensuring smooth and accurate completion with multiple stakeholders.
• Stakeholder Collaboration and Analyst Development: Interact regularly with senior Leveraged Finance members, portfolio managers, credit officers, and capital markets professionals, while also training, managing, and monitoring the work product of Analysts to ensure high quality and efficiency.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in corporate finance, financial planning & analysis, investment banking, or other related fields.
• Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in relevant financial disciplines, with preferred experience in underwriting middle market cash flow transactions.
• Skills: Superior written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey credit worthiness and recommendations, strong analytical abilities, and proficiency with financial statement modeling.
• Bonus: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, completion of a formalized credit training program, CFA or MBA certification, and thorough knowledge of leveraged finance transactions and structures including senior secured debt, TLBs, high-yield bonds, and mezzanine.
