Capital Markets Trading Associate | Federal Reserve Bank of New York

The Tone:
This is a full-time, in-person role at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, with a preference for Chicago, though NYC is also an option. The Bank is a mission-driven organization focused on supporting the strength of the U.S. economy and ensuring the stability of the global financial system, requiring full-time onsite work with teams to draw on collective strengths. As a Capital Markets Trading Associate, you will contribute directly to this mission by closely monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on global financial market developments to policymakers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Track: Monitor and track intra-day and longer-term global asset price movements across various markets.
• Interface: Engage with market participants to gather context and insights for observed asset price movements.
• Integrate: Synthesize insights from price action analysis, outreach to market contacts, and global developments to identify relevant themes for monetary policy and financial stability.
• Prepare: Develop detailed written analysis and deliver verbal briefings on current financial market developments to a range of audiences.
• Specialize: Over time, assume responsibility as a Markets Group specialist with both analytical and operational duties focused on specific market segments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Prior advanced coursework in economics, finance, public policy, or a related field provides the foundational knowledge for this role. Additionally, candidates must possess a strong understanding of financial instruments, financial market structure, macroeconomic theory, and monetary policy principles.
• Experience: Demonstrated success through a track-record showcasing strong quantitative and advanced analytical skills in a professional work setting is essential. Candidates should also have professional experience working effectively both within a high-performance team atmosphere and as a self-directed independent analyst.
• Skills: The ability to synthesize intelligence from diverse sources and combine it with available data to produce comprehensive, well-written summaries and articulate presentations for varied audiences is crucial. You must possess the capability to analyze complex market issues, make sound, informed decisions, and respond effectively in time-sensitive situations. This role also requires the ability to perform periodic early-morning analytical coverage and strict adherence to area-specific financial disclosure requirements.
• Bonus: Experience utilizing Bloomberg, SQL, and/or Python is a plus, along with evidence of a desire to continually learn and improve skillsets.
