Head of Compute Capital Markets | OpenAI
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at OpenAI, located in San Francisco, CA. OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company focused on ensuring general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. This role is crucial for securing the world-class compute infrastructure that powers AI progress, enabling researchers to build advanced models and deliver powerful intelligence to businesses and people globally.

• Mission: Shape and drive strategic investment decisions for OpenAI’s compute infrastructure to power AI progress.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Capital Strategy & Frameworks: Develop clear, investable frameworks by translating compute demand, GPU procurement, data center development, and power infrastructure for lenders, investors, and strategic partners.
• Financing Architecture & Optimization: Build durable and innovative financing structures, encompassing debt, structured capital, and partnerships, to optimize capital structure, expand capacity, and reduce the cost of capital for hyperscale AI infrastructure.
• Investment Modeling & Decision Support: Construct and maintain rigorous financial and investment models to support compute strategy, capacity expansion, supply agreements, and capital allocation decisions across infrastructure projects.
• External Engagement & Negotiation: Engage and lead negotiations with banks, institutional investors, infrastructure funds, and strategic capital providers, developing investor materials to secure optimal long-term financing outcomes.
• Cross-Functional & AI-Native Leadership: Serve as a bridge across Compute, Finance, Treasury, Legal, and leadership teams, translating technical requirements into financial strategy and implementing AI-native tools to improve workflows and operations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Executive. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in capital markets, private equity, private credit, investment banking, or infrastructure investing.
• Experience: 12+ years of experience across infrastructure investing, private / growth equity, private credit, investment banking, or restructuring, with demonstrated experience in project finance, capital project, and infrastructure financial analysis for large-scale investment projects.
• Skills: Demonstrated exceptionally strong analytical, financial modeling, written communication, and oral communication skills.
• Bonus: MBA/CFA helpful but not required; working knowledge of infrastructure investing is strongly preferred.
