Pension Finance & Data Integrity, Emerging Talent Intern (Fall) | Metropolitan Transportation Authority
The Tone:
This is an internship at Metropolitan Transportation Authority, located in New York, NY. The MTA is a large public agency responsible for providing transportation services across the New York metropolitan area. This role supports the MaBSTOA Pension Finance Unit, which is critical for maintaining the financial operations and integrity of the MaBSTOA Pension Plan. The intern’s work directly ensures accurate processing, reconciliation, and historical validation of participant contribution records, contributing to the financial well-being of the plan.

• Team: MaBSTOA Pension Administration, specifically the Pension Finance Unit.
• Mission: This intern will support the financial operations and data integrity of the MaBSTOA Pension Plan by organizing, digitizing, and analyzing historical participant contribution records.
• Tech Stack: Oracle UCM, Microsoft Office Suite
What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage and Digitize Records: Organize, review, and digitize historical physical and legacy pension records, converting them into standardized PDF formats for long-term storage.
• Index and Centralize Documents: Accurately index participant-specific documents into Oracle UCM using appropriate metadata and develop a centralized, searchable index for all pension-related documents to improve retrieval and audit readiness.
• Analyze Participant Data: Research participant account activity by reviewing historical records, analyzing legacy pension reports, and identifying key financial events or reporting patterns.
• Convert and Calculate Data: Assist in converting legacy payroll and contribution data into usable formats and support the preparation of interest calculations for Additional Member Contributions.
• Improve Processes: Contribute to process improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance document management, data accessibility, and overall workflow efficiency.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA, pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required; ability to review and interpret data across multiple sources.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational and communication skills, advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, keen eye for detail, and ability to work independently under pressure while collaborating effectively as a team player.
• Bonus: Interest in financial systems, data management, or public sector operations.
