Product Engineering Intern | Pure (YC S23)

The Tone:
This is a Summer 2027 internship at Pure, located remotely, hybrid, or in-office in Los Angeles, CA. Pure is building a modern marketplace for rare coin and precious metal trading, addressing outdated systems and opaque pricing in physical asset markets. This role is critical as the intern will build real features across the Pure marketplace that directly impact customers, sellers, and internal teams, contributing to the company’s rapid growth and mission to modernize the industry.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Build features: Build and ship real product features for the Pure marketplace using TypeScript, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Improve tools: Develop and enhance internal tools used for accounting, logistics, operations, fraud review, and marketplace management.
• Collaborate on solutions: Work with engineers, designers, and operators to understand problems, shape solutions, and ship quickly.
• Maintain code quality: Write clean, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, debug issues, and improve system performance and reliability.
• Learn infrastructure: Gain an understanding of marketplace infrastructure, including order books, auctions, payments, and data integrity.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or have equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: Experience building software through internships, school projects, open source contributions, hackathons, startups, or personal projects.
• Skills: Comfortable with JavaScript or TypeScript, interested in product engineering, and have some experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, SQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Bonus: Experience building marketplace, fintech, trading, or e-commerce products; experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Go, Python, or backend systems; experience working with design systems, component libraries, or Tailwind CSS; interest in financial markets, collectibles, rare coins, precious metals, or alternative assets; experience building side projects or contributing to open source.
