The Tone:
This is a Backend Development Engineer Intern position for the 2026 Fall term at ByteDance. The company is a global technology enterprise, founded in 2012, known for inspiring creativity and enriching life through a diverse suite of products including TikTok, Lemon8, CapCut, Pico, Toutiao, Douyin, and Xigua. This internship is within the central Infrastructure Delivery Platform Team, a critical component of the Systems Department responsible for providing essential resource and infrastructure service capabilities. The role contributes directly to empowering the department’s operational efficiency and scalability by ensuring reliable, convenient, and unified infrastructure.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Platform Development: As an intern, you will be responsible for building ByteDance’s global infrastructure digital platform, actively undertaking backend development. This includes creating and enhancing business operation systems that span critical areas such as procurement, delivery, planning, asset management, IDC (Internet Data Center) operation and maintenance, and cost management.
• Full Cycle Development: You will execute the entire software development lifecycle, encompassing detailed requirement analysis, innovative solution design, thorough technical feasibility studies, robust code implementation, and comprehensive unit testing to ensure high-quality outputs.
• Production Support: A key responsibility involves timely responding to and effectively resolving critical live issues or production emergencies, contributing directly to the stability and reliability of ByteDance’s infrastructure services.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be in their final year of study or graduating with an academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• Experience: A commitment to working for a minimum of 12 weeks during 2026 is required. Successful candidates will possess solid coding capabilities coupled with a strong foundational understanding of data structures and algorithms, which are essential for backend development.
• Skills: Proficiency is expected in one or multiple core programming languages relevant to backend systems, such as Java, Go, or C/C++.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include hands-on experience in the use and optimization of databases like MySQL and Redis, as well as solid knowledge of Linux operating systems and networking protocols such including TCP/UDP and HTTP. Candidates who proactively understand the source code implementations of mainstream frameworks will be particularly valued. Additionally, exceptional learning agility, a strong sense of responsibility, a proactive mindset, and excellent communication and collaboration skills are highly regarded.
