General Engineering Internship | Hazen and Sawyer

The Tone:
This is an internship at Hazen and Sawyer, located in offices across the country. Hazen and Sawyer is an employee-owned company with over 2,000 employees globally, specializing in the planning, design, and construction oversight of environmental infrastructure for water, wastewater, and stormwater management. This role is crucial for supporting design teams and gaining hands-on experience in critical water-related projects across various engineering disciplines.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Part-time (30-40 hours/week, averaging 6-8 weeks)
• Location: In-person, offices across the country

• Mission: This role assists in the comprehensive lifecycle of water infrastructure projects, from initial studies to construction, across diverse engineering disciplines.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, GIS

What You’ll Actually Do
• Fieldwork: Participate in fieldwork and site visits, including potential client meetings, requiring outdoor mobility.
• Deliverables: Assist in preparing various engineering deliverables such as sampling studies, condition assessments, and design reports.
• Team Collaboration: Work directly with experienced engineering teams to gain mentorship and develop professional skills.
• Data Management: Manage and process data essential for engineering process modeling and design activities.
• Coordination: Coordinate with manufacturers and vendors to facilitate the selection of appropriate equipment for projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student actively pursuing an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering, or construction management.
• Experience: No specific prior professional experience required beyond academic studies.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, self-motivation, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, ability to work both independently and collaboratively, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bonus: Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, or GIS, a strong interest in the water/wastewater industry, and prior direct experience within the water/wastewater industry.
