A&R Intern | UTC Records

The Tone:
This is an unpaid, remote internship at UTC Records, a brand new record label based in Los Angeles, CA. UTC Records is focused on building a diverse, global roster by providing a home for up-and-coming artists who are building legitimate fanbases worldwide, regardless of language, culture, or genre. This role is crucial for identifying and evaluating emerging talent before they break, leveraging data to assess market potential, and helping bring the right artists into the UTC family. The intern will work directly with industry leaders to learn the real business of music from the inside.

• Mission: To discover, evaluate, and help sign emerging global artists with legitimate fanbases, contributing to UTC Records’ diverse roster.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Artist Scouting: Discover and evaluate emerging artists across platforms like TikTok, Spotify, YouTube, and Instagram, identifying both slow-burn builders and tracks on the verge of virality.
• Market Analysis: Spot breakout sounds, genres, and developing scenes worldwide, assessing their commercial and cult-fanbase potential.
• Data & Reporting: Monitor key artist metrics, build and maintain artist prospecting databases, and compile weekly scouting reports and recommendations for the A&R team.
• Deal Understanding: Learn alongside executives how record deals are structured, valued, and negotiated, supporting outreach and initial deal conversations.
• Project Development: Collaborate on release strategies, playlist and publication pitching, PR, and the overall creative and visual rollout for artists on the roster.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current college student eligible for school credit, with a deep interest in the business of music and a globally-minded perspective.
• Experience: Proven ability to scout and discover artists before they become widely known, with examples of past successes, and comfort with (or hunger to learn) streaming and social metrics.
• Skills: Bilingual fluency in at least one language besides English, data literacy for reading streaming and social metrics, strong communication for artist outreach, and self-sufficiency for independent work.
• Bonus: Prior music industry experience, managing fan pages, playlists, or music blogs, and familiarity with Chartmetric, spreadsheets, databases, or digital research tools.
